I am a practicing clinician, a recent doctoral graduate who finally graduated school but will never leave school, a huge technology lover, a man constantly fighting off the fat, and a father.
W, H and I went out to check the Fringe Festival- they had a little tent for toddlers, but definitely too old for H. H looked mostly confused and hot in the summer sun. It was a great afternoon out regarrdless- I’m really glad we have been taking advantage of the summer sun this year- work tends to keep me tied to a desk office environment all day in teh AC, so its a great change of pace- this street performer’s climax was super disappointing.
I love this image- the composition was perfect for mebut I couldn’t get the vape smoke right – and then he ntoiced me shooting with my gigantic DSC-R1, so I stopped shooting- definitely a drawback of shooting with a giant camera.
Great views from the high level bridge
U of A looks great in the summer- the greenery is superb- lots of great memories here in Biological Sciences
Lots of pidgeons.
STAIRS. Loving the stairs this summer- stepping it up to 7 stairs a run sometimes!
I really love this set of stairs- even more so than the Glenora- this one shows the incredible rang eof depth in the valley- feels lion kingey to me.
Trudging along.
Those stairs just make me so giddy with fear and happiness
At the Italian Center checking out produce
Intersting looking veggies
Desserts in the Italian Center cafe- the food is really top nothc here
Sandwiches were superior-I’m a huge fan of their sandwiches
Saying goodbye to my office home for nearly 2 years, and where I started my journey as a psych. I miss this gigantic space so much! So much room for activities. And I love the expansive view just outside
That view. Always loved spending my downtime looking out. Especially when it was stormy or snowy
I especialyl liked watching all the little commuters running about in their own little cars
Our office meeting room was especialyl awesome given the corner room view.
Packing everything up into moving boxes and shipping out
I really miss the gigantic desk layout I had here
Looking out at the staff deck from an office
Our new place has a lot of neat design elements- big fan of this cushion area
Unpacking in my new office- its actually the old space where I first started shadowing at the clinic, so thats pretty neat
We have a little staff patio area- that will be great to take breaks out and enjoy some air- it was hard to do taht in the old center because its in the middle of roadways and nothing else
Our staff gym area is unfurnished- I’m looking forward to getting out a workout after work, so I can jus thit home and relax. I find it hard to transition to gym when I get home- I’m just too tired.
The gym overlooks teh school gym- not sure how I feel about working out in front of clients- none of my clients are in teh school program so it probably wont matter
Our staff kitchen definitely looks better- but it doesn’t have a round table- this actually changes conversations significantly- before everyone joined in together, but now the conversations are more individual and discete. Not sure how I feel about that, but it definitely does not have the old center’s vibe.
Trying the new bakery in the Cuty Market- and its mostly meh- not a standout bakery for sure. Its almost like any other generic grocery store bakery.
Salmon bowl
My NEW FAVORITE- Rice bowl deluxe has the right price, the right size, the best taste in Edmonton for cafe style food, and I JUST LOVE IT
Taiwan style fried chicken. Crispy and delish.
Our orders- the Macau style curry beef stew was divine flavor wise and potent enough to fill two meals
Terriyaki corner- neat layout, kind of meh service. Overall, not something I’m hugely hyped over. It seemed like a cool local restaurant, but the food is fairly average/forgettable. Not bad, but not stand out
Some random sushi
The pokemon go craze hit our beloved WEM and now there are pokestops there
Elm Cafe- AWESOME most of the time…my beef sandwich had lots of beef flavor but no beef. Giant cookies, and alright iced coffee/lemonade. A nice light meal for summer days.
This was straihgt up gross- preserved duck leg that does not have to be refridgerated. I bought it for fun…and I didn’t eat the rest of it.
You can see the ultra preserved duck leg here- i felt dizzy after eating this- im assuming its because of the salt. Look at that unhealthy glisten. Ew.
Dinner at Mythos before we head out from the building- not bad at all. Quite good flavors, and enough for two people absolutely
WHAT IS THIS- Lost out on an ebay auction for the PFR-V1 and then managed to nab it off the buyer when he wanted somehting else
Its basically one of the msot unique pieces of tech I own- its a set of speakers that sits outside the ear to create a wider sounstage than a typical headphone- there’s only a few other sets that do this, like the AKG K1000. SO PROUD TO OWN THESE. And in mint condition, incluyding the box! UGH.
Works fantastic with the HA-2/Walkman X. The amp is particularly important as tehse are speakers rather than headphones, and require a lot of power- they do include their own amp, but I like my PHA-2.
The other day I was lamenting on the lack of the pinnacle Sony that I fell in love with- The Brick opened up in WEM with a wall of Sony TVs that blew everyone’s mind- how many TVS there were, especialyl consdering the cost of the Sony TV- and at a time when people were willing to pay that price too. This wall is now a derelict turd that nobody remembers anymore- like the Sony brand mostly overall.
UNTIL TODAY- totally unexpected- I knew a new Sony phone was coming out, but was not hyped because their Xperia line has been mostly forgettable. But a new set of cans came out, as well as a new amp (featuring the premium ES branding!) and new Wallkman (I’m mostly uncertain on this one). I was actaulyl just thinking the other day that it was high time that my Z7 be dethroned, given the amount of criticism it has faced. And now here it is- the MDR-Z1R- and its triple the price of the Z7! It is no longer competing with mid-fi and now its tackling the Sennheisser HD800s, Focal Elear, and a whole bunch of other heavy hitters. SO EXCITED FOR THIS. Not sure when I will get this but I will get this one day (like 10 years from now probably on Kijiji haha). Lots of really neat elements to talk about, but mostly I’m excited that Sony seems to have put their all in this. I’m listening to my Z7 right now trying to feel close to it- following the Head-Fi thread super closely on this. I’m super intrigued with the steel mesh outer layer, and paper dome internally. Its also a lot large than the Z7 from side by side shots, but still uses a 70mm driver.
SO EXCITED FOR THIS- I’m hoping its going to be an instant classic like the MDR-R10/CD3000/SA5000. (still hutning for a pair of SA5000s). Hope to hear these one day soon, but not sure where that would be, since the Sony store is closed- maybe London Drugs will carry it. Its like a modern day Qualia 010 headphone. SO MUCH FANBOYISM RIGHT NOW. Despite this urge to splurge, I’m feeling really happy with the PFR-V1s, especially given how unique they are, and the fact that I love their soundstage.
My excitement for the MDR-Z1R is toned a little down with the unreal find of the Sony PASCAL home theater speakers for an unreal steal. Got them for a song, and they were incredibly expensive back in the day (1599 in 2002 in this Sony catalogue! I’ve ahd this catalogue since grade 11, so its pretty sweer to land these!). These were designed with SACD in mind (like the SA5000s!). I am a big fan of the design- solid metal cabinets. Need a proper amp to work them though
An image of everything from the internet- not a fan of the sub design as much, as it doesn’t really match the unique organic feel of the speakers. These were second in line in Sony’s lineup, but still look amazing IMHO.
Love the design- its got Sony written all over it. Especialyl a fan of the tweeter in the wire mesh- kind of like the mesh housing on the MDR-Z1R.
Another view of the Pascal speakers from the internet. I just love these so much designwise.
Enjoying a giant haul of Taco Bell and horror movies with M- definitely did not want TAco Bell anymore after this. The movie was also really meh- The Witch was not a psychological thirller, so taht was good. Its story was just too meh for me to care.
Using a Sony telecoverter to zoom in on a hot air balloon in the wee hours of the morning.
T&T noodle soup with beef brisket- really really tasty actually. Loved the tender brisket.
One of my fave pizzas- the spicy perogi pizza. Pizzas were five dollars each for their anniversary day! Grabbed four different pizzas and had a blast.
The veggie option was mostly meh.
Boston Pizza from the inside. Not sure why I thought this was intersting.
Cant remember what this one was
MEATEOR one of my faves- really like the ham in here.
Cupcakes from Whimsical- my fave cookie dough right in the middle
Using the Sony teleconverter to get ultra close to the moon
W opening up his HK Soho headphones- ok sound, but stellar design and build quality.
Checking out Galaxy land- can’t believe the red coaster had that terrible accident in the past. Its actually ridic high and I would not feel comfortable goin gon it
Loving this Nike running shoe- air max too.
Forgettable bento box
Chairs looked really neat at first, but aren’t that different to sit in, as they are bolted to the ground, and the rope mostly just gets in the way
More forgettable bento boxes
Love the patio lights at Remedy- sets the ambience for great chats, aside from the freezing incoming fall air
Drinks at Remedy with W- still nto a fan of their food/drinks, but a fan of the atmosphere for hanging out
Not really a great drink, but good to have a hot drink out in the cold night air- summer is leaving quickly. Like I was out for fifteen minutes and the drink was cold. Not a fan of the cold really, but kind of looking forward to PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE SEASON. OH YEAH
City market sushi- AWESOME. Some of these salmon sushi had DOUBLE MEAT. That was the highlight of the year. Fresh overall too. Miles ahead of T&T Supermarket sushi.
