I am a practicing clinician, a recent doctoral graduate who finally graduated school but will never leave school, a huge technology lover, a man constantly fighting off the fat, and a father.
A really solid chicken salted fish fried rice. A good amount just for afternoon tea.
Yum cha at a fancy place that looked like a house- fried squid.
TD Tower with CN tower in the back. I love how it looks here- its incredibly tall and imposing. A huge distinction from Edmonton’s skyline.
Hanging out with O in his digs downtown- heading out on the Go Bus back to Newmarket- surprisingly a easy ride without a lot of fuss-I could get used to this instead of driving downtown… had a blast with O for sure.
Continuing to be a small town tourist and aweing at all the tall buildings.
More of the fried pancake stuffed with meats- this one was egg and dried pork floss. PRetty bland to be honest.
Another RC350- really loving the design language of this, even if the reviews pooh poohed it. Would love to ride in the RC F.
Minced pork on rice- pretty flavorful.
More pictures of the Go Train line at night.
Outdoor concert at Newmarket- they played covers of the Smashing Pumpkins and AVICII
More dim sum I have never had- this was tasty but not sure what it was- this was part of the fancy dim sum house where everyone drives S-class cars.
That giant intense TD logo looks like the eye of Sauron in Mordor.
MORE STINKY TOFU – TAIWAN STYLE. And still bland. Disappointed in this.
IKEA breakfast- this time I gave away a lot of food- I have been working on eating much less at meals, recognizing that I won’t lose weight on exercise alone- I’ve know that for ages, but making it a habit is difficult, especially when I am not as caring about it. I want to lose weight but I don;t want to lose it that badly. I do feel much slimmer now and intend to continue this. I am liking this more than my crash veggie diets in the past, where it wa smuch more difficult to follow.
Really enjoyed the food here- tasty food overall and the service was solid.
dipping Ramen
this ramen was dipping ramen and was pretty solid- the broth was quite salty and realyl only meant for dipping not drinking. I quite enjoyed the flavors but missed out on the anchovy broth cause it was out of season.
Me being happy at the ramen place. Their side bowl was easily the winner for me- the beef melted into the rice and gave it tons of flavor.
I’m sitting on the Go Bus- I must admit I am a bit terrified of trying new things in cities like transit, but it wasn’t too bad. I really need to get out more.
Waiting for my Go Bus. I am so glad for Google Maps- made it easy to travel around Toronto.
Clearly touristy right now, I took lots of pictures of the Go Bus.
Soup for starters- this was ok- dried bok choy and pork soup usually appeals to me but this was a bit bland.
Taiwan popcorn chicken- lots of flavor and one of my faves. Haven’t had a gigantic fillet like the one I had in the HK street market but still amazing.
I love how dense these towers are- so many lives and so many stories. Makes me appreciate the less dense building we live in though- we have a much more neighbourly feel with a smaller populace.
Another recent dish for me- chicken and jellyfish is pretty solid- and served along fish cakes.
The congee place makes everything so so fresh- the au lay so is particularly good, and the congee is fresh and flavorful.
This was new to me and ….meh. Fried whole fish that is dipped in soy sauce. There isn’t a whole lot of flavor in this
I liked the feel of Mama Bear’s Taiwan food. It was a nicely decorated restaurant.
Cold noodles with chicken- not bad.
Eating at Banh Mi Boys- AMAZING vietnamese hybrid sandwiches- surprisingly the regular vietnamese sub was meh, but the hybrids were fantastic. I especially liked the taco- it was made of fried squid rings and a fresh taco shell.
40 dollars of Banh Mi Boys. They also have a neat bau sandwich, first time I have seen a white bau used as bread for a sandwich.
Got to try the new HP laptop that is the world’s thinnest. The keyboard is much much better than the new Macbook IMHO. More travel for sure. The screen is not touch though. The build quality is solid as well. But I didn’t care as much for the design- I usually like atypical designs but this one was just ok to me. A fan of the gold accents though for sure.
More pics of downtown Toronto.
One of my faves- smoked duck. This was much more moist than the smoked duck I had at Birds Nest Restaurant in Edmonton
The congee place is a must go for me in Toronto- always a fan of the fresh flavors here
Mainstreet downtown Newmarket.
One of the neat public libraries that you can pick and choose.
Big bone bbq ribs. PRetty tasty and monster portions- much larger than anyhting I have had in Edmonton
More pics of Banh Mi Boys- so glad we got a table- it was raining like crazy outside and I didn’t want to eat out in the rain.
More pics of Mama Bear’s restaurant interior.
First time driving in Toronto! Felt pretty good and just a little more busier than Edmonton. Not bad though really. Got to drive the Mercedes B class and C class. Really really enjoyed the C class- the ride is an obvious huge improvement on the Honda Fit I am used to driving. It was surprisingly not as big of a response that I thought the giant increase in horsepower from my Fit- the power to weight ratio doesn’t change as much as I though it would- the C class is a much heavier car than the Fit.
The ambience is great in here- perfect for conversations and catching up
Newmarket has a neat walkway with lots of nice fountains and water walls to look at .
One of the buildings downtown has an amazing gym ont he second floor- looks gigantic in there and I would love working out while watching the busy street. O said there was another unit where the gym was top floor overlooking the harbour. So so so sick
Downtown Toronto is so beautiful to look at. So many things to see
Lobster- meh for me, not as big of a fan of this stuff
Ryerson University with a performing church group . Gorgeous campus outside.
Afternoon tea at apparently a worldwide winner in HK milk tea. The milk tea was perfect for me. Lots of choices for food too. One of my fave things in toronto and something I miss in Edmonton
Of course more dim sum
Aftermath of Big Bone BBQ. Had a good fill BUT did not eat my heart out. Pretty happy with that
DT Toronto
Toronto street car
photo shoot with the fam- had a remarkably great day outside- not that humid, not that hot, and good cloud color for better colors.
More pics of this weird fried fish deal that I was meh about
Tracy desert place- not bad really and not overly sweet- just right overall
Dinner with insane parking on the outside- its packed packed packed with locals.
Competing with O for fastest times – starting to get some leg pain, so it will be good to be back in Edmonton to start hitting iron again and taking a break from running.
The H&M store is a GIGANTIC blinding light in dt Toronto
Pacific Mall’s strip mall is a sad sad place inside. IT has all these signs about their giant restoration project that have been up for a decade. Feels abandoned
Forgot what the name of this giant square in Toronto is, but its happening and I must say more exciting than Edmonton’s Churchill square. Just got more of an exciting vibe to it
Big billboards
The rain hit really hard downtown and we got to witness an angry break up on the street as well!
Big bone bbq satisfying my red meat cravings
O hitting up Pkemon Go
Got ribs, pulled pork, chicken wings and fries at Big Bone bBQ
Playing hard downtown at a Pokemon gym
Getting bubble tea- the tea is pretty fab here
Got a pair of BT30Q/S Sony headphones for hella cheap….and broken. They were brand new sealed at HDTV Electronics, the place I grabbed my SA3000 cans a while back. They must have bought out a bunch of store close outs cause these were made like 10 years ago and still sealed. I am int eh process of trying to awaken the dead battery in the bluetooth headphones. They are SWEET looking. I know they won’t sound very good even if I get them working but I love the physical design here and there isn’t really anything out there that has this 90s early 2000s vibe design. Everything is too minimalist now. Admittedly I dont really need bluetooth headphones as I rarely commute by bus anymore, or walk between classes, where they would be most useful, but they ar eneat to have. Mostly I use them when I wash dishes.
Almost landed an amazing deal ont eh HEarOn noise canceling wireless headphones- alas they were the wrong price and wouldn’t honor it. Lots of stuff to look at here- like being at a Sony store on steroids
HDTV and Electronics is my fave place now- so many close out products- not everything is a deal though, but I can bargain with them. Lots of old out of production but new in box stock. Its like a fancy garage sale here. Loving it. So many things to look at, and the service is much better than the Pacific Mall location where the dude hovered over me like I was stealing stuff
downton Toronto
MEAT
MEAT
Cool looking tree
Got to check out the SRS-X88, the very very tiny brother of the SRS-X9 and X99. I thought it was the same speaker just without the top tweeters but this is much much smaller. Pretty cool but not as well designed as the X9. The gold accents are painted on and not actual gold chrome like on the x9. I didn’t get a chance to lsiten to it as I have been trying not to pair my phone with too many demo units- you can’t actually remove the device from the pairing history and I think that was screwing with my phone a bit.
Another pic of the X88. Wishing my X33 had a little more hit in its sound
Sak’s looks fancy, too fancy for my blood
lots of greenery here, but missing the evergreens in Alberta
Catching the Go Bus and being excited
IKEA breakfast- cheap but bland. But cheap. I like cheap
Walking with H downtown Newmarket.
Loving the walks at night in Newmarket- feels very safe and something I would be fine with H hanging out with friends when shes older
Edmonton having a shit storm of storms – somebody on Reddit captured this amazing image
EYE OF SAURON
Dessert balls
Lots of yummy dim sum
Afternoon tea with an omellette and fancy HK milk tea cups. The cold milk tea was solid
Lunch meat and egg sanwiches
Club sandwiches are a big thing for afternoon tea but not something I am a huge fan of
French toast with peanut butter and shitty grass jelly/red bean drinks. Teh toast was really good though
Fresh steamed bau
The side dish with lots of beef melted over rice
HK spaghetti for afternoon tea
More condensed buildings
Going for a walk at night, catching pokemon and holding hands.
I had mango tapioca and W had walnut pudding. Really solid food. We also went for a walk in a closed mall and that was kind of fun.
I had lunch meat/egg sanwich, with wonton lo mein. Not bad, really and a great comfort food for me
My fave congee place. Had sliced chicken and fish congee.
