I am a practicing clinician, a recent doctoral graduate who finally graduated school but will never leave school, a huge technology lover, a man constantly fighting off the fat, and a father.
So the wife just defended her doctoral candidacy last week! That was pretty exciting. I must admit I was super duper nervous waiting for the result. While I have lots of faith in my wife’s competence, I am extremely intimidated by the process. That is likely a result of me desperately trying to get my own candidacy going, and regularly failing in the process. (Still working on my damned proposal and fairly angry at it).
As the candidacy exam happened- super nervous and wanted to be a creep and listen in, but opted out.
We went to HUB mall to celebrate the candidacy with a university style lunch – I’ve had do many lunches here, and so many memories. I won’t get tired of it that’s for sure! Just wish my buds were still kicking it here. But that’s off topic.
W had HoHo’s chinese food- black bean rice noodles with WET SAUCE- apparently this is very different than Beef gon hor- which is a drier version. Huh. All these years, I didn’t know. I remember the majority of undergrad laughing at ordering “hor”. Maturity at its finest.
I had thai food….and it was bad. I remember ordering this several times and never finishing it because it was soooooooo greasy. Guess what. It still is. I only ate half- sweet and sour fish, bamboo curry chicken and fried chicken with a light sweet soy sauce drizzle over coconut rice. There was too much batter and too little flavor. Still fun to have. I won’t have it for another 3 years.
Went to IKEA to grab a Christmas tree!
Its actually a pretty difficult process. I don’t quite understand how to choose one- we just tried to find one that was super fat.
Flavorless fookin fried rice. It many restaurants I have laughed with friends over the FCUKING FRIED RICE menu item. Its usually just spelled in the appropriate F bomb. Its actually the first time I have ordered it, and I will never order it again. Its super super plain, and not reflective of the F-bomb part that its often mistranslated as.
Wonton noodles for 5 bucks, vanilla/black sesame seed ice cream and papaya bubble tea. First time I have wanted to actually goto a bubble tea place in a while. We ended here to close off celebrations for the successful defense. I ordered wonton because it was a special for 5 dollars. It was pretty bad- everything was overcooked. The drinks were solid though.
Beef stew on chow mein. So tender. So so so fresh. Really liked this one at Cafe de Tropkia.
I cannot believe that Luke is the new middleweight champ. It was insane watching the fight move to Luke’s favor after an excellent round 1 for Weidman.
Even harder to believe that Aldo got knocked out in such a anti-climatic fashion. So much build up and then boom its over. Reminds me of Cain and JDS I. I seriously felt awful for Aldo after this.
Nothing like a chillout after a heavy lift session in the dark. So lax.
Dark, snowy and kind of cozy- looking out at the night traffic as I get ready for the commute home.
