I am a practicing clinician, a recent doctoral graduate who finally graduated school but will never leave school, a huge technology lover, a man constantly fighting off the fat, and a father.
I’m leaving on a jet plane across Canada to good old Toronto
Night touch down. It was a pleasant ride- there was plenty of movie watching and minimal work doing.
Picking up my luggage- I’m getting used to grabbing my luggage here at Pearson.
Breakfast at New City Restaurant- classic, simple HK diner breakfast- eggs and meat
Ham omelette
Satay meat on rice vermicelli soup- simple but surprisingly comforting as breakfast food
Moving so many boxes- helping the in-laws do their big move and being super happy I’ve done so much work with my legs and lower back. The lower back especially helped with lifting all these
Phoenix restaurant Hainan chicken- my fave has gone downhill and the food isn’t as good as I remember it to be
Cold HK milk tea is still good
Malaysia beef stew is still awesome and now its not insane spicy.
Roti goes well dipped in the curry
Sausage for dinner
Simple and filling
Assorted preserved meats over dried fish
Salted fish for dinner
Found an old Sony S85 Cybershot- one of the old flagships from early 2000s- going to be really exciting shooting with this old beast
Deep fried WHOLE jung- it was pretty good
The siu mai has whole shrimp on it
Deep fried jung with sugar and soy sauce is delish
Baked goods from J-Town bakery- it was ok, it looked better than it tasted.
90 billion course meal for the father in law- this was the best- the roast pork was perfect
assorted seafood and veggies
Sea cucumber – I really don’t have the pallette to enjoy delicacies like this. It was ok to me, but I know others would lust over a dish like this.
Roast duck being carved at the table
Lobster melon soup
Another delicacy I don’t appreciate as much as I should- abalone.
Steamed fish was good.
Lobster- again, you know what I am going to say about this.
I loved the service though- really nice presentation overall.
E-mein. Nice simple and delish- what I like
Fish roe fried rice- this was good.
Bird’s spit – yes its regurgitations from birds and its another delicacy I don’t really care for.
Desserts
They present one whole cup of bird’s spit in each bowl so you can see how much each gets- this is how important the bird vomit is.
It tastes like tapioca.
The fish seleciton was neat and like a mini aquarium.
I loved watching the electric movement of these eels.
Big live spiny lobsters
The regular monster clawed lobsters also available – I didn’t think these big ones tasted as good evne though they were hugenormous.
Big claws
At my favorite congee place- making rice rolls fresh out of the steamer
Fried dough- also fresh and perfect for ja leung.
Its a busy place in this little congee joint
Au lay soong- my fave fried dough dish- its lightly sweet.
Congee is super super fresh. I find this very comforting
Fresh dried shrimp rolls
Ja leung is perfect- much better than back home
And this is my travel companion this last few weeks- my charging cable came in and my NW-A3000 is now up and running with my PHA-2 and XBA-H3 headphones. Will post an updated review on the NW-A3000 Walkman now that I can use it.
