One of the gyms I got to use in Calgary as we did our Tour de Southern Alberta. This is where I pulled my left bicep
I ended up doing an upper back workout using the cable pull down system- I wrapped a towel around the top and used it as my hammer grip pull up machine. I think the awkward angle ended up being too much and I had to take a week off the gym last week because it was insanely sore.
Getting back into the gym yesterday was kind of hard- my arm was definitely sore on the left bicep again, a pretty regular issue over long term (I’ve taken two periods off the gym because of it, but that’s over a five year term). I really could use a pair of 25lb plates so that my dumbbell push up isn’t so stupid with two 50lb plates. The good news is that my arm is fantastic today. I also had to take a week off running because my left foot was going nuts. Its like injury season for me.
The Sony A6000 so far has been a hit and miss for me to learn- its been really hard to compose the way I want to because the kit lens really really sucks and its super slow (f3.5 -5.6). But its been fun taking much more sensitive shots like this one off my cell phone light.
Breakfast at IKEA- bacon, french toast, pancakes, eggs, sausage….lots of fatty delicious calories.
Leftover lunch at the office.
Lobster for dinner. Never been too much of a fan of lobster and crab because I am super super lazy about picking the shell off.
One of my first days in the office was decorate with M, and she made these little snowflakes that are still here all these years even with the mid August greenery.
Dadeo for dinner- lots of red florescent lighting. I like this place but I don’t like coming here in big groups because its hard to coordinate in a small restaurant like this.
The crab cake Po’Boy was really good but the pulled pork Po’Boy was pretty meh. The sweet potato fries were ridiculously good though.
I love the ambiance of this place.
Walking along Whyte Ave at night.
The high sensitivity of the APS-C sensor in the A6000 gives me a high ceiling to work with at night.
Picked up a Fenix UE40 flashlight for W and I- its micro USB rechargeable and its alomsot a 1000 lumens in brightness. Its now part of my everyday carry and its SUPER useful to have a high power flash light on my hand at all times, along with my knife.
L made a really nice carrot cake for an office meeting.
Steamed pork for dinner.
Steamed salmon with preserved vegetables.
Costco poutine is REALLLY good and cheap- lots of big fat chunks of cheese curds.
The hot dog was meh- this is when I realize I actually don’t like hot dogs at all.
I LOVE THE SURFACE RT. Kept it in my little man purse (not my laptop bag) and I’ve got a full workstation under 2lbs. The touch keyboard works for me and I was able to pump out some RA work while the family shopped.
Fried salmon for dinner. Its hard to compose my food shots without a good macro mode like on my old Nikon P7700.
Cramming out more RA work at McDonald’s late at night with a little McFlurry to keep my company.
Office greenery.
BBQ in Victoria Park – this fire took forever to light, but A was pretty awesome at setting it.
Chicken wings heated over the fire
H’s veggie dogs that tasted like bleh
Quiet evening with a few mosquitoes.
Transferring our precious fire to the pit to keep warm at night.
Enjoying the heat at night.
Set my A6000 for scene mode landscape (could focus on anything in the pure darkness and it got this shot off after a monster exposure. It seems a lot slower than my old P7700 in shot to shot times for some reason.
Then I turned on my Fenix light and blew the scene up with photons. This flashlight is AWESOME.
Yum Cha at Jumbo Restaurant.
This beancurd dish was pretty good.
These Chinese donuts are ridiculously good.
Got to try out the Sony E-mount 35mm F1.8 OSS and I LOVED IT. Minimum focus distance is a lot better than the kit 16-50mm and the f1.8 is a blessing to work with. I was so used to the F2.0-4.0 28-200mm lens on the P7700 that I feel really constrained with the A6000’s kit lens. While I realize that the pixels are better quality on the A6000, and that aperture is the same (F2>f3.5 for low light) I feel kind of stupid thinking I could compensate everything by shooting higher ISO. The F2 lens on a much smaller sensor was still really useful on the Nikon and havign macro was awesome. The 35mm F1.8 OSS (F1.8 with image stabilization!) is for sure my next lens. Shot my kit lens with the 35mm f1.8.
Shooting with the lens in McBain- the like 3 lenses in the e-mount lineup. It felt weird going from Nikon’s mount system to e-mount, but I think I made the right choice.
Got this close with the 35mm f1.8- still better than my kit and the light is just beautiful .
New York Fries in Sotuhgate- composing shots is like a whole new game – I was quite used to the Nikon after using it daily for two years. The A6000 is going to be interesting as my daily driver. Can’t wait for the 35mm f1.8.
