I am a registered psychologist, a doctoral candidate who has not graduated, a huge technology lover, a man constantly fighting off the fat, and a father.
Road trip down to Waterton National Park and passing all the canola that I used to work with years ago in my entomology days. These fields are so deceiving- there’s tons of hidden thistle and enough stings to make a city slicker like me haul butt back to the city.
Lots of forest fire smoke from the north and west- it left a yellow haze everywhere.
Saw a baby bear near out car and had to take a pic, with warning bells ringing about nearby mama bear. We stayed in the car – thank goodness for zoom
Caught this SOB trying to take a chunk of meat off me- first time seeing a horsefly in the wild. It pinched pretty good but I knocked it off before it could bite- it actually bites chunks of flesh off vs. suck blood like a mosquito
Going for a swim in one of the lower main lakes- soooo cold.
Sony action cam in shot! The rocks were sharp.
Our campsite at Townsite was amazing- this little river flowed ten feet from our camp.
I stuck my Sony action cam on a stick and took it submarining
Took it submarining first in the lake but it was kind of boring
Made people stick appendages in to make my underwater shots more exciting
Looking at the lake boat dock from underwater. Love this camera
Big monster dandelion
More pictures of my feet enjoying the cold Waterton lake
There was a TON of wind. Enough to go windsurfing and to destroy two tents.
BBQing some meat for dinner. I really need to pick up my charcoal skills
Hiking Crypt trail- this turned out to be a lot more nuts than I though it would be
Picture view of a waterfall
I would get a ton of mosquito bites here in the underbrush
Here is where the insanity started- it doesn’t look like much but this is getting really high up and that little cave up there and tiny ledge to cling to is our hiking trail
OMFG we need to climb a ladder to get to that cave- its actually quite steep drop from the ladder base
Did not enjoy the hike up to this ladder
Taking a break on our 1 foot of ledge to walk on- it was really bad here- people coming back were running into us and we had to maneuver around each other on this ledge
Climbing in the cave- this was kind of neat but then I would crap my pants when I ran into the cliff wire after
Yours truly at the summit lake- it was icy cold and TBH not that rewarding. Rewarding was coming off the cliff wire and not dying.
It was peaceful up here thinking it was a boat ride and a four hour hike to get to this lake.
This doesn’t look bad from this angle, but you could not see the drop from the walk and you had to cling to the cable to scramble to the ladder. Did not enjoy this part
Hiking back was a lot better after I realized I wasn’t going to die on the cliff. I had a blast with the guys.
Bonus post- I ran into an E-series (budget) Sony Walkman on clearance at Staples. It came with a speaker dock that sounds half alright. The Walkman itself is kind of a neat teal color and the sound, although a bit muddy, has slamming bass that works really well with my pop music. Its a real difference in sound with the premium Walkman Z – the Z’s far more detailed with a lot less bass kick. One sounds fun and one sounds stellar.
