I am a practicing clinician, a recent doctoral graduate who finally graduated school but will never leave school, a huge technology lover, a man constantly fighting off the fat, and a father.
Terribly hungry in between classes – Starbucks smoky bacon breakfast sandwich- it tasted quite good but I know its just the salt and fat singing to my tongue.
Dance class- trying to pick up some hot leg work because I have the grace of a goat. It was actually a lot of fun and the instructor was super effective- she really made sure to scaffold skills for total beginners like me.
Got to play with the Mac Pro in the apple store. This is crazy. It has more power than my SF desktop and yet its like a quarter the size. I’m most impressed with its cooling capabilities with just a single fan- in a compressed design like this, heat is a huge worry and its much more difficult to clear out heat compared to my monster open frame nine million fan desktop. Its a hard pill to swallow at 3 grand but I wouldn’t understand – its designed for workstations and not basic use or gaming so I don’t really know what design professionals require.
Chicken and cold salads for dinner- trying to hammer in more greens.
Ran by the river today and saw a groundhog (?). I have never been very good with my mammal identification. It was super warm and lots of people were out enjoying the sun.
Slow and steady was the motto- I have definitely lost a ton of speed since I started going hard on legs- the extra weight from muscle growth is killing my stamina- I can barely regulate my breathing on this and just keeping my running at a low speed was intense for me.
Studying in our old undergrad haunts in the Humanities building. We hit these classrooms hard in my fourth year- and it showed in my GPA – woo woo! Its hard to get the same kind of drive when I’m divided with other responsibilities now. It was a great part of my life long university/learning journey and it really gave me the confidence that I could push myself to go further with my studies. Now I am in grade 35.
I really need to figure out this HDR stuff- I wanted to show the ambient lighting inside and the outside scenery at the same time. Its very peaceful here.
Very quiet on this floor with ample bathrooms and water fountains nearby- i.e. perfect study space.
Its really wonderful during the day but it becomes absolutely dark here at night.
Special pork belly for dinner at Taipan
Beef/rice noodles. Super fresh and the right amount of spice for me.
Home made hamburger and egg for protein snack. At ten. PM.
My study room for the summer- the cafeteria in the Bio Sci building is something I did not discover in all my years of undergrad- theres a cafeteria that only opens during fall/winter term. Its really nice and bright with natural sunlight.
Looking outside my study window. Its getting really nice now and I was able to wear my shorts today. Ow ow!
Filling my container with veggies and protein
Half off fraps at Starbucks- I tried to choose a small size, half sweet and less whip- obviously this looks bad for me – less whip is full whip anyways apparently.
Look at this surprise! I managed to get one of these after like nine years! These came out in 2005 and I remember in my old archives blogging about how I wanted one. Life dream fulfilled.
JW managed to find his old Sony Walkman NW-A3000 that came out just after my own NW-HD5 came out. It was an absolute beautiful device for its time and I still love it. I was super lucky to have JW still have a mint condition in box one. Unfortunately it was missing the charge cable and typical Sony made a proprietary Walkman cable that was ONLY for this Walkman generation and no other. So these cables go for 50 bucks right now on eBay and I don’t think I will pick one up. Its off to my personal Sony museum!
My VAIO Duo 13 has been fantastic for summer school- its all day battery life and tablet mode have made reading papers and typing notes without worrying about plug in outlets such an awesoem awesome time. I love its design and am super glad I picked it up.
Chicken and Waffles at Culina- it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be- so far my two CW dishes in Edmonton have been disappointing- they just don’t seem to meld together and its like having two separate dishes.
W had eggs benedict.
Fixed my brother in law’s Nexus 4- the charge port had died and we got a new one from eBay- took about half and hour and reading the iFixit tutorial and boom- its back alive. Telus was RIDICULOUS and said it was water damaged- not a single water damage indicator was activated inside- they essentially lied to us to get out of fixing it and said it would cost 150 bucks! it was 20 bucks for the part. Geebus.
Meanwhile dad was fixing my brother in law’s stove. It was a Home Improvement kind of day.
I’m going hard on the frozen veggies again- I dropped a ton of weight doign this a few years back and I got a really fantastic cut- its time to do this again. If this is the only way I can mod my diet to get to my weight, then here we go! Its about time I paired my exercise regiment with a complimenting effort in diet.
