I am a practicing clinician, a recent doctoral graduate who finally graduated school but will never leave school, a huge technology lover, a man constantly fighting off the fat, and a father.
I got a chance to use a Dell XPS13 that W’s research lab was using – it was predictably – meh. As much refinement as they have put into making products less grey plasticky gunk, the overall aesthetic is still meh. This is what I felt best shows this- the aluminum lid- it feels great, but the design looks like they were kind of inspired by Apple but wanted to change it a little bit.
Compared to my VAIO Duo 13 in thickness- its definitely an ultrabook and quite thin- but thats the norm now.
The underside is more interesting to me- carbon weave and a metal name plate.
The keyboard looks alright and feels alright but its got no character to it.
Side by side with my ultrabook, VAIO Duo 13. I think this is the one thing I hate about glossy screens- its like a mirror here so you can imagine what its like in full sunlight. I love my VAIO S15 for that reason- I’d take a anti-glare screen over glossy. Its kind of crazy how glossy started out and became the norm. I remember putting a piece of overhead transparency plastic on my iBook G4 14 inch laptop to make its anti-glare screen a glossy screen. This was at a time when panels were poor in color reproduction and glossy was a cheap way to make contrast. But now you can get good panels that are also anti-glare and they are just annoying to me now.
Burger, pasta and salad for lunch today. W made a really nice meat combo for the patty.
One of my all time inspirations for fitness and testosterone- the Lesnar/Overeem lineup was so much hype- these two beasts were just the pinnacle of excitement and watching two trains go head on with each other.
I unearthed my Sony wireless headphones to use with the TV. I think this is the least used headphone I own- I got them half price at Blockbuster of all places and they sounded really terrible- they use radio frequency to transmit sound so its really not hi res audio at all. But I don’t need that to watch tv and its nice to set up something like this at night time when you don’t want to disturb others and having a wire strung across the room is inconvenient.
I realized something stupid- I turned down the EQ on my phone and the Sony BTX500 speakers and the great audio I was expecting but didn’t get for a YEAR actually was there- it just wasn’t meant to be drowned out by bass. Its kind of cool- its like falling in love with something I already have all over again.
E made us cupcakes for dessert.
Good Buddy takeout for dinner.
As spring finally comes to our city, I am psyched to be able to enjoy warm evenings outside. Can’t wait for this- overlooking the city from the Muttart Conservatory.
Last push- cranking out some final papers with the help of unhealthy energy drinks.
Squats at night.
I’ve been debating about adding an S8 subwoofer to my A5+ speakers- the A5+ can really do well without a sub, but sometimes I feel like I could use a bit more kick on the low end. The S8 also has a frequency limiter so it doesn’t overlap with the low end from the A5+ speakers.
Four of the earphones I’d love to have- I have the XBA3 on the left with three armature speakers built in. The XBA4 has four and I’d like to hear what that quad speaker difference makes- I’ve read the XBA3 is actually the better sounding one. The EX1000 is a magnesium cabinet dynamic single driver earphone that just looks great but too expensive for my tastes. Most interesting to me is the XBA-H3 on the right- I really want to hear this hybrid model- one full range driver with two balanced armatures. Maybe this bday hehehe.
