Forgot about these little Altec Lansing Powercube speakers- they were sitting in the bedroom for awhile and I never got around to using them. I guess I just assumed they were too old to be pertinent anymore. What I didn’t realize was that their drivers were much larger than my existing Logitech Z-3 and Z-553 speakers- you can see the far bigger drivers on the left speaker. The Z553 is probably the most disappointing speaker I have ever heard. Its plastic enclosure just cannot handle any low end.
The subwoofer is also a decent size and it goes pretty low. Here it lies beside the Logitech Z-3 subwoofer. The Z-553 subwoofer vibrates at anything with a hint of bass. Its terrible. I took it apart and the entire thing reeks of cheap plastic. Of course it can’t handle the vibrations like these older wooden subs can.
Here’s a picture of the original box that just screams 1990 font style.
Here’s a picture of the speakers with their grills on- very much an early PC off white color and they look like minus thirty for style. What is interesting is the much deeper hitting lows they reach compared to my current Logitech 2.1 arsenal and the greater range of frequency that my brief listening session showed. I am impressed with this older set and I’m going to be using them for the next bit to see if I like them enough to keep them at the deskk.
Vinegar ribs and carrots for lunch.
Impromptu dinner at Taipan – corn and fish on baked rice.
Classic Portuguese chicken on baked rice. My fave.
Dinner at Kingsway mall – three curry combo that was pretty good. The samosa was rank terrible though- it looked like something from McCain frozen foods section.
W had some Thai express Pad Thai. Not bad but nothing really mind blowing either.
Studying in Med Sci library- I never studied here in undergrad. It was really nice to be here. Lots of sunlight and studious people to motivate me to stay on track.

Debated getting an AOC 29 inch IPS monitor- its a superwide 21:9 aspect monitor that isn’t actually that big. A 16:9 27 inch monitor has more area space. The price wasn’t good enough for me to buy in, although after my monitor died yesterday I am kind of regretting that. I just couldn’t really see the immersive aspect of this monitor that I was hoping for in my next display upgrade.
Finally hit the lifting after a two week hiatus and constant cardio. It was really nice to do some lifts- today was lats/upepr back training.
